Biography
Emma Ferruzzi (b. 2003, Italy) is a visual artist based in New York City. She graduated in May 2025 from Parsons School of Design with a BFA in Communication Design and a minor in Fine Arts. In June 2025, she completed an artist residency in Contemporary Practices at the School of Visual Arts, which culminated in her first open studios exhibition.
Artistic Practice
Ferruzzi's practice is deeply rooted in emotional expression—painting becomes a form of release, a way of caressing the surface with gestures that translate feeling into form. Working primarily with acrylic paint mixed with glossy impasto modeling paste, she creates richly textured compositions that balance energy and tenderness. Her pieces often incorporate found materials such as plastic, dried flowers, and discarded waste, adding layers of narrative and environmental consciousness.
Approach & Future
Emotion, materiality, and spontaneity lie at the core of Ferruzzi's approach. Her imagery often emerges intuitively, revealing subtle suggestions of figures or landscapes beneath dynamic surfaces. In addition to her painting practice, she has a growing interest in photography and aims to expand this passion in future projects.
Professional Background
Ferruzzi has worked closely with artists and galleries in both Italy and New York, including galleries MATTA and Massimo De Carlo; and artists Jim Hodges, Eloise Hess, Megan Reed, and CANEMORTO. These experiences have shaped her understanding of artistic practice within both studio and institutional contexts.
